2008 International Speech Contest - Calgary


“Toastmasters: The Courage to Conquer!”

On Saturday August 16, 2008 during the Toastmasters International Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada inside the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre http://www.calgary-convention.com/ the 2008 Toastmasters International Speech Contest began at 9:00 AM in a room filled with 3,000 eager toastmasters, family members and guests.

The First Place Winner of the 2008 International Speech Contest is LaShunda Rundles from Region III – Texas, Second Place Winner, Loghandran Krishnasamy, District 51 – Malaysia [DNAR], Third Place Winner – Dr. Katherine Morrison – Region Vii, District 31 – Boston, Massachusetts.

Other contestants were:

Richard Hopkings, Region I – [Also a Champions Edge Member]
Robert Mackenzie, Region II
Martin Presse, Region IV
Colin Williams, Region V
Charles Wilson, Region VI – [Also a Champions Edge Member]
Henry Flowers, Region VIII
Jock Elliot District 69 – Brisbane Australia [District Not Assigned Region – DNAR]

It was an historical event for all Three Top Finalist. AND CONGRATS to each!

LaShunda Rundles is now the first woman to win in the past 20 years!
Loghandran Krishnasamy is the first contestant to win from Malaysia!
Dr. Katherine Morrison is the first person/woman to win third place from District 31!

It was an amazing contest with amazing messages fro ALL of the contestants - EVERYONE deserves a “standing ovation” because for each of them to make it as far as they did takes commitment and as the 2008-2009 International President’s theme says the “Courage to Conquer”!

AND big thanks to ALL the judges, counters, timers, ushers and everyone who assisted with making the entire event successful!
