L.E.K Consulting Club # 1174682 “Chartering Ceremony”
L.E.K Consulting Club # 1174682 “Chartering Ceremony”
Vanessa Hsieh, Club President of L.E.K. Consultants being presented a Chartering Banner by Past District Governor, Cherylle Garnes, DTM during the Chartering Ceremony.
“The beginning is the most important part of the work.”
Plato (Ancient Greek Philosopher He was the world's most influential philosopher. 428 BC-348 BC)
Today – Tuesday September 16, 2008 we celebrated the “Chartering Ceremony” of L.E.K. Consultants Club # 1174682 at the historical Omini Parker House at 60 School Street in Boston, MA at 12:00 noon while enjoyed a catered Chinese lunch. http://www.lek.com/
Performing a Chartering Ceremony is a perfect way to acknowledge a new club to our District 31 (which covers eastern Massachusetts to Worcester and the entire State of Rhode Island). And since L.E.K. Consultants Chartered during my term as the 2007-2008 Lt. Governor of Marketing I was in charge of making sure we following through with planning the chartering event.
The outgoing District Governor, Cherylle Garnes, DTM also assisted with the ceremony and we presented certificates to each chartered member in attendance, gave the Club President, Vanessa a Toastmasters Banner, a club Charter certificate and then performed an installation (induction) of club officers.
Also in attendance was the incoming District Governor, current Lt. Governor of Marketing, Bil Lewis, Club Mentor Susan Belisle (who works at the Federal Reserve Bank) and a few other Toastmasters who were on my Marketing Team, Past District Governor, Ruth Levitsky (who works at M.I.T.) and Julia Grant (who works at D.E.P.).
It was a quick ceremony and Vanessa asked two Table Topic questions just to give non-toastmasters an idea of what a mini Demo meeting. Table Topics helps members improve their impromptu skills, which include critical thinking, listening and speaking “off the cuff”.
I thought it was a nice touch to hear a “call to action” with “if any other LEK Office would like to join a club or begin (charter) a club – we would be happy to assist”!
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
Jim Rohn quotes (American Speaker and Author. He is famous for motivational audio programs for Business and Life.
The only improvement that I could suggest would be to work on their repetitive “Ums”, “Ahs” – but that will come with time and the more they attend meetings – the better their public speaking skills will improve!
Now - I was supposed to give a toast today but sometimes it is best to be flexible. So now I will give a quick toast. “To LEK – May you continue to Charter new waters and pick up many more passengers along your journey” “Here” ! “Here”! …or as we say in Boston “Hea’ya”! “Hea’ya”!
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.
Lao Tzu quotes (Chinese taoist Philosopher, founder of Taoism, wrote "Tao Te Ching" (also "The Book of the Way"). 600 BC-531 BC)
